OpenBazaar Developers Reaffirm Tor Integration is Coming In A Few Months From Now

The OpenBazaar platform has been attracting a lot of attention from enthusiasts over the past few months. Allowing anybody in the world to run their own online store for products and services is a prime example of decentralization. Now that Tor support has been added, the OpenBazaar initiative will gain even more traction among Internet users.

OpenBazaar Wil Run on Tor!

Ever since the OpenBazaar source code was released to the public, thousands of people embraced the solution to set up their own marketplaces. Accessible by anyone in the world, and only accepting Bitcoin payments, the project has quickly become a fan favorite among cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

As is the case with any project, there is always room for improvement. Several users have requested the developers to build in Tor support. In doing so, these users want to have more privacy and anonymity when browsing Openbazaar marketplaces. That is not a bad thing by any means, and it makes perfect sense to support Tor, as it is one of the most popular browsers in the world.

It is important to note the addition of Tor support does not mean OpenBazaar will become the new go-to place for darknet users. While anyone in the world can buy or sell whatever they want, this system was not necessarily designed to facilitate sales of drugs, illegal goods, and contraband.

Support for Tor on OpenBazaar was initially announced in May of 2016. Implementing this new feature will take some severe coding and testing, to make sure everything is behaving correctly. It is good to see the developers actively support privacy and anonymity when dealing with marketplaces. Do keep in mind these new features are still a few months away.

People have to keep in mind OpenBazaar was created to become the “backbone of global commerce.” Achieving that goal will require the software to cater to as many people as possible. Integrating Tor support is just the first step on a long road to achieve that goal. As long as the buyer and seller are satisfied with their deal, their identities do not matter when legal goods or services are changing hands. That type of activity can take place through Tor without any problems.
