In November of 2015, USAA announced a digital currency pilot program, which allowed a small group of the bank’s clients to check their bitcoin balances on the Coinbase exchange.
According to today’s announcement
on the official Coinbase blog, USAA has revealed that the bitcoin pilot program has now been extended to the entire USAA client base of 11 million members.“The engagement on the pilot was strong, and as a result, USAA decided to roll out the integration to its entire membership base.”
While many financial institutions are currently experimenting with blockchain technology and its applications in the financial space, USAA is the first Fortune 500 financial company in the United States to allow direct access to bitcoin services.
USAA clients will be able to check their bitcoin balances though the main USAA portal, as well as USAA’s mobile app, which is currently available on several platforms: iPhone, Android, Windows Phone and Amazon Fire.
