The Romanian Hacker Who admitted to Leaking Clinton’s Private Email Account Gets 52 Months in Prison

The Romanian hacker responsible for hacking over 100 U.S. citizen’s computers has been sentenced to 52 months in prison.

Marcel Lazar, also known online as Guccifer, was convicted yesterday of unauthorized access to a protected computer and aggravated identity theft for hacking the Bush family, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, as well as over 100 Americans. Along with this, Lazar also faces seven years in a Romanian prison before his sentence in America would even begin.

Guccifer had already plead guilty on May 25th to hacking social media and email accounts of over 100 U.S. citizens. Some of the information he obtained through his illegal exploits against the U.S. were emails detailing how the former President had been practicing his painting, and even included portraits he had painted of himself in the shower.  He also stole information relating to former President G.H.W. Bush’s stint in the hospital.

A statement from the Department of Justice revealed that during his attacks, he hacked former presidential advisors, members of the Joint-Chiefs-of-Staff, U.S. Cabinet members, and close relatives of the former Presidents. Colin Powell had to speak out publicly against allegations of having an affair after Marcel leaked private emails between Powell and a former Romanian Diplomat.

Guccifer also hacked into Hillary Clinton’s advisor Sidney Blumenthal’s private email and leaked information showing Clinton using a private email account, which is turning out to haunt her during her campaign run.

Another hacker going by the name of Guccifer 2.0 who has come out to say he was the one behind the Democratic Party hacks recently, is said to have no connection to Marcel Guccifer Lazar. Cyber Security experts in charge of investigating the Democratic Party hacks have released information saying that Guccifer 2.0 has Russian Intelligence ties, and nothing but a name related to Guccifer.
