Samsung Ready to Launch New Galaxy A Phones

The Korean giant will release three new phones with dust and water resistance. The phones, targeted to the less ‘well-off’ audience, are still equipped with many flagship-level features, such as 2GB+ RAM memory, and a premium bezel.

The Korean company is hoping that these new devices will bring a new life to the brand, which has been struggling since the Galaxy Note 7’s demise. The new phones will be labeled as ‘Galaxy A 2017 series’. Specifically, Samsung will release the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, and Galaxy A7. Main features being water and dust resistance (like their high-end siblings, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge), Samsung Pay integration, and a biometric sensor (fingerprint scanner).

The Galaxy A series will be able to withstand rain, dirt, and sweat; these new phones won’t turn bad if they are submerged into the water by mistake. After the Note 7 scandal – Samsung latest release had a battery malfunction which started several fires, and caused property damages – the company kept a low profile, but investors and fans of the brand pushed for a new product release.

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A series specs and design guidelines: the phones will feature a premium design that mimics the more expensive Galaxy S7 flagship, with a metallic frame and a 3D-crystal backside. The phones will be available in blue, gold, silver and pink colors.

The A3 will be the smallest of the three, with a 4.7-inch screen, 13-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel frontal one; the A5 will be the middle ground, the phone houses a 5.2-inch screen while maintaining the same camera sensor and hardware of the Galaxy A3.

Samsung Galaxy A7 will be the most expensive of the three, starring two 16-megapixel cameras, one in the front, and one in the back –Samsung emphasizes the selfie capabilities of the gadgets–. The phones will come with 2350 mAh (A3), 3.000 mAh (A5), 3.600 mAh (A7) batteries, and fast charge capabilities.

All three devices will host a powerful octa-core processor (with different clock speeds depending on the model), type-C USB port, always-on display, NFC chips, and expandable memory (up to 256 GB). The phones will be presented today at the CES convention in Las Vegas.
