Prison Librarian Purchased Firearm and Cocaine From Deep Web

The deep web appeals to people from all walks of life, including a prison librarian at HMP Brixton. After ordering a Glock 19 handgun and ammunition from a darknet marketplace, he wanted to have the goods delivered to his home. That same address was also used for his drug dealing operation.

Prison Librarians Like The Deep Web Too

As one would come to expect from stories like these, US law enforcement agencies are trying to infiltrate deep web marketplaces. The Glock 19 handgun in question was sold by a US agent who notified the NCA about this deal. As a result, the librarian’s house was raided in October 2015.

But that was not the end of the story, as a second raid on the premises took place in February of 2016. Nothing to do with weapons, this time, as cocaine, scales, and cash were confiscated during this intervention. It turned out the same prison librarian used to be involved in drug trafficking as well.

Prosecutor Tom Forster told the media that:

“His iPhone and linked laptop both had uploaded a software program called Tor browser, which allows someone using it to browse the internet anonymously, so they can use the dark web and protect their identity while doing so. All tending to suggest a committed interest in cocaine and large amounts of it.”

Despite pleas from the defense as to how these drugs were “purchased for a friend”, the judge did not agree with this argument. Instead, he found the defendant guilty of benefiting commercially from this drug trafficking. The librarian admitted to possessing drugs with intent to supply.

But there is more, as the librarian also admitted to possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life. Combining all of these charges will probably net him a hefty jail sentence, and the verdict is expected on June 17. One would expect a prison librarian to do everything possible to stay out of jail.
