NATO Officials Consider Using Artificial intelligence for Strategic Verdicts on key Issues

If it is up to NATO, the goal is to introduce artificial intelligence as a tool to help render decisions on important matters. As strange as this may sound, it is not a joke by any means. NATO is contemplating using AI to deliver strategic verdicts on key issues. It is unclear when this technology will be implemented exactly, yet the prospect is quite appealing.

NATO and AI are an Exciting Combination

Any decision-making process can be bogged down due to indecisiveness and people being persuaded to vote differently than expected. This concept has been flawed for many decades now, yet there never seems to be a feasible way of resolving these issues. Blockchain-based voting could provide more transparency, but it will not necessarily change the outcome of the voting in the first place. Finding a potential way to address these issues is of the utmost importance right now.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization acknowledges now is a good time to experiment with other types of technology where the decision-making process is concerned. To be more specific, the organization is looking to incorporate artificial intelligence for key decisions in the future. It is unclear when this will happen exactly, although it could be as early as a few years from now.

This is quite a surprising turn of events by the 68-year-old military alliance. Then again, NATO has suffered from quite a few roadblocks when it comes to agreeing on particular decisions. The recent meeting with Donald Trump only illustrates this point even further. There is no better time than now to look at alternative solutions to make strategic decisions. Artificial intelligence is not in the same league as humans by any means, but the outcome could surprise a lot of people.

The main reason for exploring artificial intelligence is due to the distribution of data needing to be improved. Assuming the data can be distributed in a different manner, it is possible subordinate levels of command can be empowered to take action if the need arises. NATO acknowledges they want to be able to achieve this level of operation in the future, without going into further detail. It is quite an interesting concept if this vision comes true, that much is certain.

Artificial intelligence is a technology on the radar of a lot of companies and organizations. Although we aren’t even close to developing an AI powerful enough to compete with humans, feeding existing solutions more data will certainly get us closer toward that goal. Having an AI partake in the NATO decision-making process will be quite a revelation, albeit a lot of people will be concerned about the outcome as well.

Moreover, it appears NATO is looking to improve its cloud-like architecture as well. Again, no specific details regarding this venture were provided at this time. Cloud services have gotten a bit of a bad reputation lately, due to the centralized aspect of this technology. It will be interesting to see if NATO officials will even consider a decentralized architecture for data storage in the future. All things considered, this is an exciting announcement, even though we are still missing a lot of information.
