Maze Ransomware Affects the City of Pensacola, FL

Ransomware remains one of the biggest threats to internet users today. The city of Pensacola in Florida is currently dealing with the Maze malware strain.

There has not been a shortage of malware and ransomware strains in recent years.

Pensacola Deals With a Ransomware Attack

Judging by how successful these attacks still are in 2019, it seems unlikely that this situation will change for the better in the years to come.

The city of Pensacola in Florida is currently dealing with a major IT problem of potentially catastrophic proportions.

The Maze ransomware strain is designed to cause a lot of damage, and may even result in data theft.

It is not uncommon for these types of malware to steal data from infected computers or systems.

Encrypting all information on a hard drive remains the main problem when dealing with Maze and consorts.

This malware first made headlines following the attack on Allied Universal.

During that attach, there was no ransom note associated with the infection, forcing the victims to visit a darknet site.

It is unclear if the Pensacola incident has a ransom message attached to it, as officials sources neither confirm nor deny that aspect.

The attack itself has crippled a few systems and affects public emails and phone numbers, as well as online payment systems.

It is unclear if and when the situation will be rectified.
