European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs will hold a public hearing on digital currencies on the 25th of January. The committee will present its own report on blockchain-based payment systems and their knock-on effects on commerce, governance and public policy within the EU.
Representatives from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will be attending the hearing, along with members from the the European Digital Currency and Blockchain Technology Forum (EDCAB).
EDCAB, founded by Sian Jones, is non-profit organization that engages with EU lawmakers on digital currencies and blockchain technologies. Jones will be present at the upcoming hearing and believes that these meetings will lay the groundwork for bringing this innovative technology into the lives of all EU citizens.
“All active discussion and debate by policy-makers, legislators, and national and multinational organisations helps to bring virtual currencies into the mainstream and with appropriate safeguards, to strengthen trust and confidence in them.” said Jones, in an interview with CoinTelegraph.
The hearing will be streamed live at 15:00 CET on European Parliament TV.
