Last week, Premier League football club Watford FC and it’s Betting Sponsor Coingaming.io announced what would be remembered as one of the biggest moves in the history of Bitcoin publicity: the Hornets home shirt will be branded with Bitcoin’s logo on its sleeve. This initiative sponsored by Sportsbet.io is part of an elaborate campaign – ’Know No Borders – to further improve the awareness of Bitcoin and the entire cryptocurrency ecosystem.
Sportsbet.io’s recently-launched ‘Know No Borders’ campaign hopes to teach people its philosophy of focusing sports on players regardless of their country of origin, sport, team or currency”. In this manner, Bitcoin is promoted as a currency that is a decentralized entity with great disruptive force.
The Hornets had earlier in June announced a 3-year long landmark deal with Sportbet.io – to become a beneficiary of a EUR 20 million sponsorship. As part of this partnership, Sportsbet.io has initiated a branding of the team’s home kit, which will feature the Bitcoin logo on the team’s shirt. It will also provide benefits to holders of Bitcoin who will be crowdfunding with Sportsbet.io to share in the privileges to be granted at Watford FC. This includes the ability to bid in Bitcoin for public LED space shown live during matches, the Bitcoin box for 8 people, and exclusive Watford FC merchandise.
Head of Sportsbet.io Marketing, Justin Le Brocque, shared insight into why the initiative was important, saying that it was their own way of showing gratitude to the entire cryptocurrency community as well as their platform users. He said:
“The crypto community has been massively supportive of us since our beginnings, so putting the Bitcoin logo on the sleeve felt like a fun way to give back while also showing our support for the community.”
Acknowledging how important it was to educate the masses about the use of cryptocurrency for mass adoption, Le Brocque further noted that this move amplifies the effort to get the word on Bitcoin out there. He expects this will go a long way to dispel common myths around crypto and to educate the masses on the opportunities available in crypto.
Football fans will get to see the Bitcoin logo on the pitch during the 2019/2020 session any time Watford team plays at home. The addition of Bitcoin logo will hopefully create a buzz in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, as no football club has attempted such a feat.

The betting platform also announced a giveaway event of 2 mbtc equivalent to $20, to be given to all the players on their platform on the condition that Watford scored a goal against Arsenal in their game on Sunday.
