Dubai’s Keynote 2016 Conference to be Held at Burj al Arab Luxury Hotel

The Burj al Arab, Dubai’s sail-shaped luxury 5-star hotel, has been selected as the venue for the Keynote 2016 conference on May 30th, 2016. The event is being sponsored by the Dubai Museum Of The Future, in additional to several other prominent fintech, blockchain and digital currency firms like IBM, Genesis Mining, Bitcoin.com and CoinPayments, among others.

The conference page reads:

“The Burj Al Arab in the centre of Dubai will provide the inspirational backdrop for Keynote 2016. Steeped in history and architecturally magnificent, this unique venue guarantees an atmosphere befitting the conference’s caliber.“

Saif Al Aleeli, CEO of the Dubai Museum of the Future Foundation – which launched the Global Blockchain Council (GBC) earlier this year – will be giving the opening remarks at the conference.

In February, during the launch of the GBC, Al Aleel said that the council will be focusing on raising awareness about blockchain technologies and digital currencies within the UAE. The Keynote 2016 conference is just the first example of the GBC’s strategy to bring these innovative technologies to the financial ecosystem in the region, “We realize the importance of the financial sector in the UAE’s development, and we believe that blockchain technology can usher in vital changes by introducing new approaches and projects in the sector.” said Al Aleel, according to a report by Emirates news agency MENAFN.

The GBC will also be hosting a panel discussion at Keynote 2016, which will reveal four pilot projects using blockchain technology. Unlike many other conferences that have focused primarily on the applications of the technology in different industries, the Dubai conference will host a panel discussion on bitcoin itself. The panel consists of several prominent digital currency advocates like Bruce Fenton, Director of the Bitcoin Foundation, and Marco Krohn, theoretical physicists and CFO of Genesis Mining.

Keynote 2016 will also feature speakers from the IT and finance industries; Floris Kleemans, Former Group Strategy Head at ABN AMRO Bank; Alvaro Abella, Managing Partner at Beco Capital; Anthony Butler, CTO at IBM Cloud; Iqbal Alikhan, Business Development Executive at IBM.
