Bitcoin is an amazing cryptocurrency, but it has quite a few flaws people would like to see addressed. One of those flaws come in the form of not providing sufficient privacy-centric and anonymity solutions. This is part of the reason why Bitcoin mixing services have become so popular in recent years. In this article, we will look at a few bitcoin mixers, and how they compare to one another.
Disclaimer: Bitcoin mixers might be illegal in your jurisdiction. We do not promote the use of Bitcoin mixers to launder illicit funds. This article is for educational purposes only.
Although Bitcoin Blender is not mentioned all that often, the service should not be overlooked by any means. The site is very easy to navigate and does not confuse the user with unnecessary information. Do keep in mind you can only use this service by registering an account, which can be a downside for some people. Perhaps its biggest feature is the random fee charges to mix coins, which can run anywhere from 1% to 3%. Users can also enter a maximum of five simultaneous deposit addresses, which is quite impressive.
Bitcoin Fog is somewhat of a household name among people who look to remove any taint associated with their Bitcoin balance. Similar to all other mixing services, it can only be accessed via the Tor protocol. Bitcoin Fog’s mixing process is pretty straightforward, although account registration is mandatory on this platform as well. It is also quite interesting to note Bitcoin Fog has a minimum withdrawal limit in place. It is unclear if this has to do with the mounting network transaction fees, though.
It is good to see bitcoin mixers such as Bitcoin Fog clearly advise users on how they should optimize their anonymity. Many people take these mixing services for granted and expect them to do all of the work. However, users should always use a new address for both depositing and withdrawing funds to guarantee anonymity. It appears Bitcoin Fog also uses a random fee of 1%-3% these days.
We have touched upon the concept of BitMixer on this website before. It is one of the more popular Bitcoin mixing services in existence today and one that can be accessed with or without the Tor protocol. The mixer also keeps a steady supply of coins to ensure there are no additional delays. There is a minimum fee of 0.5% plus the transaction cost for every recipient address. It is a cheaper solution compared to the two above, that much is evident.
One cannot discuss Bitcoin mixing services and not mention Helix by Grams. It is by far one of the most reputable bitcoin mixing service providers to this very day. Interestingly enough, Helix by Grams can be accessed via Tor or by visiting the regular website address. Helix by Grams does not require users to register an account, and there is no entry fee associated with using this service.
Under the hood, users have eight hours to send their tainted coins to the Helix address provided on the platform. Right now, transactions can be as large as 21 Bitcoin, which is a substantial amount. The user will receive their “fresh” coins once their original transaction receives two network confirmations. Do keep in mind there is a 2.5% fee associated with the mixing process provided by Helix by Grams, which is quite steep.
