Possible bitcoin creator, Craig Wright, is under criminal investigation for tax issues

Craig Wright, who is still suspected as the possible creator of bitcoin by the community, is now the centre of a criminal investigation with serious allegations, handled by the Australian Taxation Office’s (ATO) evasion and CI unit.

According to recent reports, it seems like the Australian Federal Police alongside with the ATO have been reviewing claims associated with millions of dollars paid to companies owned or associated with Wright.

During the investigation, Law enforcement units have interviewed Wright’s former business partners about various tax claims that he made through his businesses. Together with this, the ATO has also questioned his associates about deals worth of over $300 million that have been carried out via bitcoin. The first aim of the investigation is to figure how much bitcoin Wright has, and whether it mirrors the tax claims that have been made. To further understand bitcoin, is it believed that the ATO simulated their bitcoin transactions, to see individuals carry out trades, or prove their ownership of the digital currency.

While various publications have accused Wright of being the creator of Bitcoin due to a series of leaked emails, Australian authorities do not buy these claims. In fact, they believe that Wright himself may have created the hoax to distract authorities from his tax issues.

At this moment in time, Australian authorities believe that Wright has left the country and that he is in England.
