Bitcoin Payments Startup Bitwala Finishes in 2nd Place at Pioneers Festival 2016

On May 12th, Bitwala announced it was included in the Pioneers Festival 2016, along with 70 other European technology & fintech startups. Today, the Netherlands-based bitcoin payment solutions firm announced that it finished in 2nd place at the festival.

The Pioneers Festival 2016 finale was held at the majestic Hofburg Imperial Palace in Vienna, Austria, where Bitwala CEO Jörg von Minckwitz spoke about the company in front of 300 international investors and several thousand tech enthusiasts.

Bitwala markets its bitcoin-funded Visa debit cards as a solution for digital currency enthusiasts looking to use bitcoin for everyday shopping needs, “Through our presentation, we were also able to share how easy it is to base everyday finances using Bitcoins and how Bitwala is easily the best solution for bitcoiners interested in living solely on Bitcoins.” writes Bitwala’s Andrea Hesler.

Jörg von Minckwitz said the event was the “most exciting tech festival” for Bitwala, “We had the opportunity to meet with some of the brightest minds in Europe, learn more about our peers in the industry and most importantly to share our passion and love for Bitcoin with others.” he added.

While Minckwitz’s firm didn’t win the €500,000 grand prize, Bitwala’s presence at the festival, as well as their impressive 2nd place finish, will undoubtedly raise awareness about the inherent usefulness of bitcoin within Europe’s burgeoning tech startup scene.

Bitwala COO Jan Goslicki explained how important this event was for the company:

“Not only did we established a stronger relationship with passionate entrepreneurs, we also had the opportunity to introduce Bitwala and what we do on a larger scale.”

The Pioneers Festival 2016 grand prize was awarded to Pleo, a corporate expense tracking startup based in Copenhagen.
