The Ethereum ecosystem has gotten a lot of attention over the past few years. Not only did the project raise a lot of funding before it was production-ready, but it has also turned into an ecosystem where powerful Dapps and smart contracts are created. As one would expect, there are some prominent people in the Ethereum ecosystem people should be aware of, including the following individuals.
Ethereum has quite a few founders who came together to create this platform. One of those founders is Mihai Alisie, who has also been involved in the Ethereum Foundation and Ethereum Switzerland. Mihai’s main focus – in the initial stages – was on the holons idea for a distributed physical infrastructure. Right now, Mihai is also involved in the Ethereum-based Akasha project.
Charles Hoskinson is a well-known name in the world of cryptocurrency, as he was involved in Ethereum from the early days. However, he effectively left the leadership team before the Ethereum Genesis block was even mined. Ever since that time, Hoskinson has been focusing his attention on Ethereum Classic, which a lot of people deem to be the original Ethereum chain before the DAO roll back hard fork occurred. The technology entrepreneur is also involved in other startups, and was the founding chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation educational committee.
Wilcke is another Ethereum founder and he is also the lead developer of the go-Ethereum project. Moreover, he remains a “hacker” at heart and is actively looking for ways to make the Ethereum Virtual Machine more efficient as time progresses. Jeffrey Wilcke also got some attention from cryptocurrency enthusiasts for allegedly sending a letter to the SEC, although that later turned out to be a complete fake.
Everyone in the cryptocurrency space has heard of Anthony Di Iorio, as he is one of the many Ethereum co-founders. Di Iorio is also actively involved in the Jaxx wallet, which allows users to store multiple cryptocurrencies in one app. Plus, he is also the CEO and founder of Decentral, a company providing guidance through the blockchain ecosystem.
People who have ever shown an interest in Ethereum and decentralization will have heard the name Gavin Wood. Gavin is an Ethereum founder, the inventor of the Solidity smart contract language, and he wrote the Yellow Paper. Wood is also involved in different projects, he is an advisor, and is a frequent panelist and speaker at cryptocurrency and blockchain conferences.
It will be very difficult to find anyone involved in technology or cryptocurrency that has not heard of Vitalik Buterin by now. This Russian programmer currently living in Singapore is a co-founder and co-creator of Ethereum. He also contributed a lot of work to other open source software projects, including Kryptokit and DarkWallet. Interestingly enough, Vitalik has recently stated how he may step out of the spotlight in the coming years, as he feels there is more focus on himself than the Ethereum protocol at times. Plus, there is no shortage of capable people working on Ethereum right now.
